Biocides are widely used: They are found in many disinfectants, cleaners, and mold remedies, and are used in many businesses and homes. Often, biocides are used without consumers even being aware of it. Biocides can be defined as active ingredients that kill or control other organisms. Biocides are used to defend against harmful organisms such as fungi or bacteria.

However, due to their damaging effects, biocides are also potentially dangerous for humans and nature: they can trigger allergic reactions, affect the bacterial flora of the skin or enter the environment.

 Alternatives without biocides

The German Federal Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection therefore recommends that consumers use as few biocidal products as possible. This is the basic idea behind ASPEREX®. ASPEREX® mold control

The ASPEREX® anti-mold concept is fundamentally based on two mechanisms of action: the biocidal effect of formic acid and the microbe-inhibiting effect of a chitosan biopolymer complex.

Formic acid

Formic acid, which is produced by ants, among others, is used by the animals for defense. Through a synthetic production of formic acid, it is possible to take advantage of the strong antibacterial and disinfectant effect of the substance. Although formic acid is a biocide, it does not attack the main barrier of the skin and is therefore less dangerous for consumers.

Chitosan biopolymer complex

However, the ASPEREX® brand has also found a way to completely dispense with biocides. In the preventive spray, ASPEREX® relies instead on a chitosan biopolymer complex. The active ingredient chitosan is a natural resource that is ideal for combating mold because of its very good antimicrobial effect. With the help of the biocide-free chitosan biopolymer-based formulation, chalk and black mold in particular can be effectively suppressed. The gentle mold agent is ideal for use in bakeries; the food service industry or food and feed production.
